Anonymous Hacks Greek Ministry Website, Says it Will Wipe Greek Debt Away
Grant J. Kidney— The ‘hacktivist’ group Anonymous has shut down the website belonging to the Greek Ministry of Justice threatening to wipe clean all of Greece’s debt electronically if the big banks and the IMF don’t pull out of the country immediately.
The bold move comes as part of Anonymous’ ‘Operation Greece’ or ‘#opgreece’. In recent times, Anonymous has hacked websites belonging to governments around the globe in protest to such things like internet censorship and the erosion of basic, civil liberties.
Anonymous replaced the Greek Ministry of Justice’ homepage with a dire warning to the big banks who brought Greece to financial ruins. “We are Anonymous. We watch every day your government abolishes the constitution and institutions of the country. We see them leading you closer and closer to poverty.”, read the hacker statement of justice.
Ever since the disastrous Greek bailout bill passed the Greek parliament, citizens have turned out in droves on to the streets, rioting, overturning cars, and lighting buildings aflame.
The most recent Greek bailout makes huge cuts to minimum wage as well as to pensions. Many Greeks have even committed suicide knowing that their own personal fates will take a dramatic turn for the worse once the full effects of the bailout begin to set in.
If Anonymous were successful in wiping out all Greek debt, it would throw a major wrench in the works for the big bankers and the wealthy profiteers who have milked Greece dry of its sustenance.
Anonymous concluded in the warning posted to the hacked Ministry site, “Citizens of Greece, Anonymous is now fighting on your side.”
