The Washington Times is reporting that the Trump administration is preparing to arrest leaders of ‘sanctuary cities’ who shield criminal aliens from deportation by federal immigration authorities.
The Department of Homeland Security has confirmed Tuesday that the department is exploring the notion of bringing criminal charges against mayors, governors and other officials who preside over cities that have been declared safe-zones for illegal immigrants.
“The Department of Justice is reviewing what avenues may be available,” Homeland Security Secretary, Kirstjen Nielsen, confirmed to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Tom Homan, who serves as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director, says that sanctuary city policies put police and communities at grave risk. Many resources must be actively devoted to cleaning up crime committed by illegal immigrants, after all.
In California, Governor Jerry Brown has declared his entire state a ‘sanctuary’ for people who do not belong in the United States.
The existence of sanctuary cities essentially amounts to treason against the U.S. government. Under federal law, there are many provisions that the President and his administration can take in reining in disobedient regions of the country that do not comply with blanket regulations regarding immigration and other policies.
The Insurrection Act of 1807 grants the President of the United States the ability to subdue active rebellion against the government using any and all force necessary.
Imagine the look on Jerry Brown’s face if President Trump used the fullness of his authority to force compliance with U.S. immigration law.
