Scientists have created a device which can only be described as a mind reader.

The device is meant to help folks with degenerative diseases who are unable to communicate their thoughts. A computer which is connected to a victim’s brain via tiny electrodes can now peer within and put in to print every word which may come to mind.

The implications of such a device’s usage are quite literally ‘mind boggling’. Say for instance a totalitarian leader emerges someday and decides to pry in to the private thoughts of random civilians.

Mind reading and thought control technology have been in the works for many years. A Star Wars toy was actually released just a few years ago which allows children to essentially ‘use the force’ by focusing their thoughts hard enough in order to levitate a ping-pong ball.

We are already living in a world where a citizen’s right to a trial has since been revoked with the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act. Now we have to worry about our minds being read with this new, invasive technology.

Science has always served our species as a double-edged sword. The work of folks like Albert Einstein helped to pave the way for not only the atomic bomb, but also nuclear energy. IBM not only helped to catalog Jews and other Nazi concentration camp victims, but also laid the foundations for the eventual rise of the personal computer.

Keep an eye on technology that can be used against the populace- especially when said technology blurs the lines existing between science and civil liberties. We must not allow the oligarchs to use mankind’s innovations against him. Rather, we must use our technology solely for the intent of bettering ourselves and ultimately assisting us off of this world and out in to the stars.
