Pentagon Raising Artificial Fears Over Defense Cuts
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is raising wholly artificial concerns that a slash to the defense budget will inexorably lead to something as devastating as an invasion of the United States.
‘After 10 years, the cuts would leave the United States with the smallest ground forces since 1940, a Navy fleet that would be the smallest since 1915 and the lowest number of fighters in the Air Force’s history.’ -Leon Panetta
The truth of the matter is that without slashing the defense budget, the United States is in greater danger than if we just left it alone and kept pumping billions of dollars into an inflated war machine.
The Soviet empire collapsed because it was bogged down militarily in none other than the middle east- just as we are today. Even the Roman empire collapsed for very similar reasons. No nation has survived prolonged war- and the sooner we pull our troops out of conflict and slash the amount of money pumped in to efforts at keeping the American empire relevant, the sooner we’ll be on the road toward economic recovery.
Its time for the United States to step down as the policemen of the world. Its neither our duty nor our mandate to shove our particular brand of freedom down everyone’s throat. If our government can’t find a place to re-allocate funds that would typically go in to the war machine, why don’t they get to work fixing up our roads, sidewalks, and bridges. I could think of a few in my hometown that need repaired almost immediately.
