The 192.168.1.254 is by default a Private IP Address that used as home broadband router and modems. Universal routers or modems that use this IP Address involves 2Wire, Aztech, Billion, Motorola, Netopia, SparkLAN, Thomson, and Westell modems for CenturyLink. A private IP address is a non-Internet covering IP address on an internal network. Private IP addresses are provided by network devices, such as routers, using network address translation (NAT). Private IP addresses can only be assured unique to an internal network, excepting conflicts.
If a directly connected computer does not have a static IP address assigned, even assigning a private IP address by hand will not enable communication. Another benefit of using network address translation (NAT), for those who do tend to have incoming requests – like websites, file and game servers – is the ability to quickly switch servers in the event of any server or any other crash, as the incoming traffic can all be forwarded to a backup server very fast.
If you’re trying to configure your modem/router, then you need to make sure that you have its IP Address. Admin interface panel is for making any change in the network settings for the modem/router, accessible only through IP address.
